Quick assembly and disassembly

I did a quick assembly with an old friend in order to adjust the aileron cables.  The aileron surfaces are now level with each other and move freely as they should, with the stick centered at neutral.

The one point I wanted to note is that the strips of Velcro around the wing to hold the aileron and flaps up made a WORLD of difference during assembly.  It was much easier to maneuver the wings during setup.  I am slightly disappointed that I didn't modify the ailerons to let them fold flatter (it was my change that caused the interference), but it'll be okay.

Also, the right order of operations is to connect the wing panels while flat on the ground, then stand them up using the cabanes and struts.  Last time I tried to stand them up and then connect left/right panels, and it was awful.

Next on the list is a tip dolly.  I already have the wheels, so just need to create the little dolly itself.  Should be a fun small project.

Hello, I haven’t reached out and commented in quite awhile to see how your project is coming. I remember your name, but I noticed you changed your profile to anonymous so I won’t dox you lol. My name is Kevin Kat, and I found your blog while on the yahoo air chair group. I recently went there and noticed Yahoo had made some changes to groups. Anyway, It’s so great to see you have progressed along with the Goat project! Have you test flown your glider yet? I too am building the Goat 4 with the Yando wing mod. I took some time off the project, but I’m back at it. I’m nearly complete with construction. I have 2 coats of paint on everything but the wings, which I haven’t yet started painting. I’m really putting in work though, and I’m hoping to have the whole plane painted within the next 2-3 weeks. I still have to assemble the struts, and jury struts also. I have all the hardware crafted, I just haven’t done it. I’m going to go back through your blog to hunt for any posts regarding the struts. I have a pretty good idea of how I’m going to complete the task, but it always helps to see the experience of another builder. If you’ve test flown your Goat it would be amazing to see some pictures or a video. Also, I have what I believe to be a pretty unique, but excellent idea for trailering the goat. If you are open to the idea, we should correspond......

Thanks for the comments guys. I have not yet flown, though Goat is ready (covered, painted, CG'd, ready!) just shy of a method to transport. DMV is shut down and I haven't been able to get a trailer tag to go pick up the steel to weld up a trailer. So stupid close...

Interested in unique trailer ideas!

I have a cheap harbor freight trailer. I’m going to rig up (3) A frames that will bolt to the decking I put on the trailer. I’m going to put wooden wing guides on the outside of the A frame to hold the main wings on the outside of the A frame. I’m going to wrap and attach carpet padding and outdoor carpeting on the wooden frame To protect the wings. With the wings resting on the A frame, I will come up with a way to wrap ratcheting straps around both wings at 3 locations to hold the wings firmly against the A frame. On the inside of the A frame I’m going to have guides on the inside to hold the horizontal stab and elevator. Nose section and tail section will slide inside the interior of the A frame and anchor points will be established to hold them in place while traveling. I’m also going to build a box that will bolt onto the trailer hitch rails to carry supplies and some items to conduct minor field repairs. Once I have it finished, I would be happy to send pics. Just let me know. Also, I need to create a tip dolly for the main wings. I’d like to see what you came up with!

Trailers don't have good suspension, they will bounce your glider around a lot and damage it.
It's not that hard to make a roof rack, it's the best option by far, trailers are a pain.
